DIY Tufted Headboard with Frame

So, a couple of months ago I came across a tufted headboard in Pier 1 Imports and my hubby and I really liked it. I've been wanting something more for the bare walls of our bedroom for a while and this would look awesome! However, it cost about $300. Yeah, that's a little too much for my liking.

It didn't take me long to find some nifty DIY videos online to build up some confidence that I could tackle this one myself. Once I convinced hubby, I started buying the supplies I would need. I waited for the best deals at Joann's and bought the supplies I needed. Since there are already a lot of great tutorials on how to make an upholstered headboard, I'm not going to try and explain it myself. And the truth is I just want to show off some pictures of the one I made. lol. But, if you want to make one yourself, here are some good resources to get you started:

Okay, back to me. Below are some of my best shots of the main components and the final project. But don't be fooled by the other tutorials or from my photos. This was a lot of work and it took more time than I expected. If we didn't have the frame though, it would've taken a lot less time.

My lovely yellow wooden frame
When I convinced Jacob that we could make this headboard, he said we needed to make a frame to go with it. With the help of Lowe's, my Dad, Jacob, some wood putty and paint - I like how this frame turned out.

Main Tufted Headboard
Once I gathered all of the supplies to make the actual tufted headboard part, it wasn't too difficult. The foam was the most expensive part, but with a 50% off coupon from Joann's I think it was about $25. I chose an ivory cotton fabric that went well with my duvet color. Since the frame was bright yellow and there's already so much color in my room, I wanted something neutral.

My new headboard hung up in my room!
I love how it turned out! It definitely adds a lot of character to our room and goes with our style really well. I am so glad this project is finished and it was fun working on it with Jacob.

Productive Weekend and a Soiree!

This week my mom and her hubby, Vince are coming to stay at my house for my brother's wedding. I am beyond excited about this! We are going to Disneyland along with some other good 'ol California tourist sight-seeing expeditions since Vince hasn't seen much of California.

That means this weekend I had to get my house in order and check some things off my list that I've been wanting to get done. I won't bore you with the details, but we have gotten so much done and I feel greatly accomplished.

Oh, one funny side note - We took Shadow and Rocky to Petco so Shadow can get caught up on his shots. It was raining outside, so that means wet paws. Petco has very slick floors. Rocky still gets freaked out by new places. So as soon as she stepped foot in that Petco, it was like those cartoons where the character is trying to run so fast but they go nowhere. And the more she skidded around, the more freaked out she got; which caused her to slip even more. I felt so bad for her, but it was hilarious! She eventually calmed down and it was a good experience to expose her to a new place. Our dogs make us laugh all the time.

Last night, our church (Lighthouse in Newbury Park) put on this awesome Soiree. (Soiree is just a fancy term for party.) There were appetizers, a live band, photo booths, a bubble station for the kids, and my church family. I had so much fun hanging out and we even danced for a few songs. Of course we took advantage of the photo booth and I had to share our pictures.

Tim & Rachel looking classy as ever

Tim and Rachel are getting married next weekend and they are adorable little lovebirds. Tim is my brother - one of the sweetest guys you will ever meet - and Rachel has become one of my best friends. I look forward to having her as part of our family.

The girls
I love these girls! I am so blessed to have so many girls my age, older, and younger who I have connected with at my church. Pictured:
1. Kelly in the fun dress on the right - she lives down the street from Jacob and I with her hubby, Michael. They've become one of our go-to couples when we need to just have some fun.
2. Katie with the huge green glasses - such an awesome young woman and I am so glad I've become friends with her. She was my co-counselor for the youth winter camp and we had so much together.
3. Savannah in the blue glasses - a youth that is one of the funniest girls I know. She's honest in what she says and in her expressions. Seriously, if you know have ever met Savannah, her laugh will make you laugh.
4. Vanessa in the bowler hat with the sign that reads "I'm sexy and I know it" - an inspiring youth that can accomplish anything she sets her mind to. She has dedicated so much of her time to volunteering at the church. Really, a lot of the youth at my church are amazing at helping out at our church. She has also been known to give me fashion advice. lol

Our fun family photo
This is one of my favorite photos! It just cracks me up every time I look at Jesse in her green war helmet. Jesse is also one of the youth girls at our church who I have grown close to. She is wise beyond her years and her honesty always brings me joy. Abby with the hot lips also came along for this photo. She has a heart of gold and is one of those youth who I always see helping out.

I have so much to be thankful for and these fun photos are a reminder of just some of the awesome people God has put in my life. My church is pretty awesome for putting an event like this on. And it was the perfect Saturday night out.

Now it's Sunday and I just have a few more things around the house to get done. Tonight Jacob and I are helping out at youth group; which is always fun. Then off to work tomorrow! I hope your day dreams come true!

Love,
Amber

Welcome to the Inner Workings of My Day Dreams

Welcome to my new blog! I decided to start this blog for several reasons - because it's fun to blog, I like to share my thoughts, and it's therapeutic in a way. I chose the name Amber's Day Dreams, because I want to start making my day dreams a reality. And I spend  lot of time day dreaming! Now, before you take me home, let me tell you 5 things about myself:

1. I married my soul mate. It's true - it doesn't always happen that way, but Jacob is my knight in shining armor, my best friend and he can always make me laugh. We got married in June 2009 and it's been awesome having such a great husband. He's pretty adventurous and active, which I think is one of God's funny ways of asking me to pray more.

2. I'm kind of comical - Well, at least I crack myself up. Because of this, I sometimes say things at the wrong time that I think are funny and then people don't laugh. This just makes me laugh more. This type of thing usually happens in meetings with my bosses. Because I love to laugh and make jokes, I have been able to surround myself with others who also have a great sense of humor. No chicken crossed the road jokes here - just some witty sarcasm, funny stories, impressions of people I know and silly dance moves.

3. I love to travel. If I could quite my job and just travel all around the world for a couple of years with my hubby, I would do it in a heartbeat! I have been fortunate enough to already have explored some pretty awesome places. Below is a picture of me and Jacob when we went to Fiji in 2010 over Christmas:

4. We have 2 dogs - Rocky & Shadow. Rocky is such a sweetheart, but she is also sneaky and witty. She was a rescue dog so it's taken a little while for her to not act like a homeless dog and realize she's part of our family. She's not a really small dog, but I can still pick her up - which I love doing! Shadow thinks he is the king, but in actuality he's kind of an oversized goof. He looks rather intimidating to most people who are on the other side of our fence, but he's really the biggest softy ever!

5. I'm a crafter. Yeah, it's true. I like to scrapbook (although now I make my scrapbooks on the computer), sew, and try new crafts. I even have my own Etsy shop where I sell pillow covers and other home decor items. Sometimes my new little craft projects don't turn out the way I saw them in my head. This actually happens more often than not. lol.

So now that you know a little bit about me, we can be friends! I hope you enjoy my blog and I hope that I am good at staying consistent. (Sometimes I don't finish what I started - something I didn't really want to put on the list. lol)
